Rachel Trevor-Morgan on Wearing Hats Fearlessly

Millinery quote by Rachel Trevor-Morgan on wearability - Kathryn Lee Millinery

"A hat should never be too precious, it should be a piece that can be worn and enjoyed every day."

— Rachel Trevor-Morgan

This is such an important message. Too many beautiful hats spend their lives in boxes, brought out once a year for the races and then carefully packed away. Trevor-Morgan is saying: wear your hat. Enjoy it. Let it live.

A well-made hat is designed to be worn, not preserved. The best felt hats develop character with age. Straw mellows beautifully over time. Even the most exquisite fascinator looks better on a head than on a shelf.

"I make hats to be worn, not to be museum pieces. When a client tells me she wore her hat to the shops as well as to the races, that is the highest compliment I can receive."

— Kathryn Lee

So the next time you are wondering whether to wear the hat or leave it at home, wear it. Always.

Fun Fact

Trevor-Morgan inherited some of her hat blocks from the legendary Aage Thaarup (1906-1987), the Danish-born milliner who served as the official hat maker to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. These vintage blocks, some dating back to the 1940s, continue to shape hats in her London studio today, connecting decades of royal millinery tradition.
