"I believe that a hat is a finishing touch, a way to add a touch of personality and flair to an outfit."
— Eric Javits
Javits nails it. A hat is the full stop at the end of a sentence. Without it, the outfit can trail off. With it, everything feels deliberate, polished, complete.
The word "flair" is important here too. It suggests something joyful, something alive. Not obligation but celebration. A finishing touch that adds personality, not just formality.
This is why I love making headband pieces and fascinators as much as grand wide-brimmed hats. Sometimes the finishing touch is small, sculptural, and perfectly placed. It does not need to be large to be transformative.
"The finishing touch is the part of getting dressed that most people skip. It is also the part that separates looking good from looking complete."
— Kathryn Lee
