"A hat is an extension of the outfit, an accessory that can be used to make a statement or simply add a touch of elegance."
— Philip Treacy
Treacy understands that a great hat does not compete with the outfit. It completes it. Whether you want to command a room or add a quiet finishing note, the hat is what ties everything together.
This is something I discuss with every client during a bespoke consultation. We start with the outfit, the event, the mood. The hat comes last in the conversation but first in the impression. It is the piece people notice before anything else, and the one they remember longest.
"I always say: your hat should feel like it was born with the outfit, not bolted on afterwards. That is the difference between a good hat and the right hat."
— Kathryn Lee
Treacy's approach ranges from wildly sculptural to breathtakingly simple. That versatility is the mark of a true master. He knows that sometimes a small, perfectly placed fascinator says more than a towering creation.
Fun Fact
Treacy created an astonishing 36 hats for guests at the 2011 Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. Princess Beatrice's now-famous pretzel-shaped headpiece was his, and it later sold at auction for charity. It remains one of the most talked-about hats of the 21st century.
